About IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) Treatments

Intense Pulsed Light therapy can help patients correct a variety of skin conditions such as facial skin imperfections, signs of ageing, uneven pigmentation and can improve skin texture and other blemishes. IPL (also referred to as photo-rejuvenation or photofacial) offers a safe, gentle and non-invasive method to tailor your treatment to your individual condition and skin type, providing superior cosmetic results.

IPL How does it work

How Does it Work

IPL is applied via a series of gentle light pulses over the treatment area. As the light penetrates the skin it is absorbed by small blood vessels or pigment marks. The heat generated by the absorbed light causes damage to the vessels or pigmented areas stimulating the body’s natural healing process. Skin will also be stimulated to produce a firmer, fresher complexion, reducing pore size and evening out skin texture, tone and color.

Recovery

Unlike laser resurfacing or other skin resurfacing procedures, there is no real downtime with IPL. Your skin may be slightly pink or red right after your treatment, and you may experience mild swelling that should subside in a few days.

The sensation during IPL therapy ranges from warmth to something like the sting of a rubber band snapping against your skin.

Upon completion of the recommended treatment course, prominent veins and pigments may be permanently eradicated, provided you maintain a safe and healthy skin care program. The more subtle rejuvenating results are very long lasting, though you may wish to have 1-2 IPL treatments a year to keep optimum results longer term.

By dividing the therapy into several treatments, the procedure provides gradual improvement with very low risk. You will see improvement after the first treatment, however most patients require a series of treatments to see maximum improvement. For mild to moderate skin damage, three to six treatments are recommended. For skin with more damage, the doctor will create a customized treatment plan to help you achieve your desired results.
